What is Archival Quality?
Archival quality, as the name suggests, ensures that the materials used to produce your print will withstand the test of time. For all Fine Art Prints, we always use museum-grade substrates, inks, and processes to obtain your print. Each print offering will list which process and substrate is being used: Gelatin Silver, C-type, Lightjet or Giclée. If you would like to know specifics about how we create your print, we are happy to oblige: please contact us directly at: Prints@BrianGaschler.com
Fine Art Prints vs. Posters?
All Fine Art Prints are printed exclusively as archival (see above) and are printed in numbered Editions. Print sizes for Fine Art Prints will vary depending on the photograph.
Posters are printed to a very high standard of quality and are offered in standard poster size only: 24in x 36in. (unless otherwise noted in the product description). Posters contain a border around the image, which contains the artist’s name and title of the print (recto). Posters are not signed or numbered and offer a more economical way to own a large, high-quality photographic print from the artist.
Limited Editions, Open Editions and Artist Proofs
Fine Art Prints are offered as either Open or Limited Editions, depending on the photograph. All Fine Art Prints are numbered, personally inspected and hand-signed (verso) by the artist and are accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity. Most photographs offered as prints are Open; the product description indicates whether a print is Open or Limited.
Open and Limited prints are identical in both archival quality and aesthetics: Open print-runs are indefinite, whereas Limited print-runs are fixed. Generally, Limited prints are reserved for photographs that are personal favorites to the artist, or are photographs the artists considers to bear considerable symbolic intensity or epitomize a photographic project.
Additionally, the artist will at times release Artist Proofs for sale, which are also numbered and Limited. The quality of all Artist Proofs is still archival; however, the aesthetics between prints may vary slightly, as these represent the journey the artist undertook before obtaining what the artist considers to be a perfect print.
